The rising cost of healthcare places a financial burden on families. Healthcare policy solutions are complex. The cost of healthcare leaves people to face financial destruction that destroys generations of families. Years of corrupt healthcare policies, riddled with officials siphoning bribes from contracts for equipment and construction, have degraded the domestic healthcare system of our nation.
Ghana trains healthcare professionals who, upon graduation, emigrate to serve in world-class hospitals. This is a clear indication that Ghana has the talented, dedicated individuals necessary to deliver quality healthcare to its citizens. It lacks a government that sees healthcare as fundamental to the growth and prosperity of a nation and its people. It is easy to see, without looking too far, that the government of Ghana views healthcare as a treasure to be raided.
In the last thirty years, the corrupt national central government has approved contracts to build hospitals that are funded but never serve a patient. Empty buildings, unused beds, and medical equipment litter the land, while sickness and disease remain untreated.
The corrupted government fosters an imminent medical disaster of chronically ill people because of the pollution from galamsey, e-waste, clothing, and rubber recycling that pollute the air, land, and soil. Every day that the national tragedy of galamsey escapes enforcement due to the payment of bribes to government officials brings us closer to a catastrophic healthcare disaster.
I believe access to healthcare is a fundamental right, and expanding fair, reliable coverage is essential to protecting our people. Progress has been made in widening access to health services. The healthcare systems in Ghana face the challenge of higher costs and decreasing coverage, despite the need for an increase in medical professionals and facilities in underserved communities.
If allowed to serve Ghana, I will concentrate on strengthening healthcare delivery, improving affordability, increasing transparency, and ensuring resources are directed where they are most needed—not on political theatrics. Healthcare reform must be guided by compassion, efficiency, and accountability. Healthcare is an integral part of the National Development Plan that I am championing. Healthcare affects the lives of every Ghanaian.
I will build hospitals that utilize the talent of graduating healthcare workers, equipped with the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies. I will seek investments and partnerships with world-class medical universities and medical facilities.
Healthcare is a universal right. Under my National Development Plan, embedded in the new constitution, healthcare reform will be a priority.
