A Ministry of Energy with a strong plan is vital to the future of Ghana.
Agenda 2024 calls on the Ministry of Energy to redouble enforcement efforts of current energy drilling and mining enterprises throughout the country while establishing clean, sustainable energy solutions to take Ghana into the forefront of energy technology.
In a partnership commission with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Energy will be mandated to review all current mining and drilling operations to ensure compliance with current laws.
The Ministry of Energy will be expected to present a 20, 30- and 50-year energy plan that will ween Ghana off fossil fuels and implement innovative, sustainable clean energy options. This will include mandating the cleanest technologies available for all continuing mining and drilling operations.
The Ministry of Energy will immediately implement plans and begin projects to deliver reliable, clean energy to all 16 regions. These should include an infrastructure that is fed by solar, wind and geothermal power.
The Ministry of Energy will engage with International experts in establishing experimental and innovative processes of producing energy.
The Ministry of Energy will collaborate with agencies of other Ministries to build an infrastructure of public transportation that is powered by renewable energies rather than fossil fuels.
In order to advance sustainable energy with technology, the Ministry of Energy will plan and implement the installation of solar, wind and geothermal power for all government buildings. This will include local as well as National structures.
The Ministry of Energy will implement a pilot program to add solar power to residences modeled after the successful 100,000 roofs program of Germany. This program in Germany successfully delivered solar power to private residences, yet they have many fewer sunshine hours than Ghana which is ripe for such an initiative.
The Ministry of Energy will form a task force that will educate, investigate and enforce a total ban of rubber tire burning as a major step towards eliminating a serious health and pollution problem that continues to grow across the Nation.
The Ministry of Energy will be charged with establishing national, regional and local educational campaigns regarding best energy conservation practices.
The Ministry of Energy in conjunction with the Ministry of Employment and Entrepreneurial Development will be expected to engage in partnerships with International entities to establish an incubator hub for the research and development of sustainable energy. The goal of the Energy Incubator Hub will be to develop new energy solutions for worldwide implementation while creating professional career paths for Ghanaians.
Ghana can, should, and will become an international sustainable energy leader that will export clean technologies throughout Africa and the world.
A strong Ministry of Energy must recognize its role as an essential impetus in creating an energy independent Ghana as well as a world leader in sustainable energy technology.
