The Health Ministry is essential for the growth, prosperity, well-being and life of every citizen of Ghana.
The Agenda 2024 vision calls for a restructuring of the Health Ministry with a goal of providing progressive health care by top line health care professionals in modern, tech friendly, energy efficient buildings throughout each of the 16 Regions of the Nation.
Restructuring of the Ministry of Health will include eliminating the top-heavy bureaucracy while increasing pay and training to the doctors, nurses, and support staff who are directly involved in patient care.
The mandate of the Healthcare Ministry will include free inclusive preventive care for children under 5 and adults over 65 with an eye towards efficient and effective healthcare options for all citizens to prevent and treat infectious and communicable diseases. The Health Ministry will be expected to establish an internal department to focus on Women’s Health initiatives as well as one focused on youth and their special needs.
The Health Ministry will be tasked with working in conjunction with the Office of Economic Development as well as the Ministry of Energy to build new state of the art regional and district hospitals, diagnostic and research centers to create a two-prong approach to health care delivery. The proposed two-prong approach will achieve grassroots preventative and curative healthcare initiatives.
The Health Ministry will enlist the Department of Technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in planning all new facilities to ensure that they include the latest in health care tech. The Parliament will be requested to pass a separate specially earmarked budget dedicated to Health Care Research and Development.
The Health Ministry will be expected to involve the Ministry of Energy in all new construction and renovations to erect energy sustainable pollution free medical facilities.
The Health Ministry will also work with the Diaspora Secretariat in identifying Citizens of Ghana around the world who are leaders and professionals in Health Care. The Diaspora Secretariat along with the Health Ministry will establish programs to attract these prestigious Health Care Professionals to return home and utilize their expertise in building a world class health care system in Ghana.
The rebuilding of the Ghana Healthcare delivery system will include traditional and western medicine professionals. The Health Ministry will be mandated to regulate and license Traditional Healers under the same stringent guidelines established for the practice of Western Medicine.
The Health Ministry will include in its mission and administration the regulation and oversight of private health insurance companies and their policies. As the newly restructured government works towards lowering the unemployment numbers, the Health Ministry must simultaneously guide and oversee the Health Insurance industry in offering affordable policies with equitable coverage for all Citizens.
The Citizens of Ghana are its most important asset. A healthy citizenry is vital to a healthy Nation. A key foundational element of rebuilding the Nation is a vibrant responsive healthcare system that provides the best in medical facilities, professionals, preventative and curative programs to all Citizens in each of the 16 regions.
